Hot Buttery Night Cap

Screen Shot 2014-09-29 at 11.40.40 AM

This is a favorite of mine on cold nights.  A Hot Buttery Night Cap… yes, a dessert in a mug! With a little special warming ingredient. There is more to this though, the thought behind this one- DE-STRESSING!

Now before some of you have a fit… YES, this is an “adult beverage”. Though you could substitute rum flavoring and have a hot buttered kiddy rum (reminds me of the lifesaver flavor) or just add the alcohol while heating & most if not all will evaporate out.

Myself, I think a little nightcap for those who can handle it… is a God send!

I added some of my artwork to this one. I often in the silent night enjoy one of these while panting. Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” was the perfect inspiration and is a great album. (Time out of Mind) I can simply hear some of his songs and life’s priorities and humanity seem to peek out over the day’s silly stresses. No, the video does not use that song, due to licensing. It’s just music and silent directions, but it’s a feel… kinda’ the mood of the drink, if you would.

I once went to a chiropractor who for many weeks in a row, popped and adjusted my back and neck and then he did something that I am forever grateful for. He shut the door, sat down in front of me and said, “kimberly, I can keep. putting a band aid on it… or you can get rid of your stress” He was right, the only thing I had pulled- was my mind and life in 20 directions. His advice: “get a hobbie”.

I picked painting back up, something a dear friend of mine- musician, Kevn Kinney (the original kk) once suggested after I went through my first marriage’s divorce… “paint” he siad, “you’ll feel better”. That next month or two I painted everything in sight. An old projector screen… a lamp… a bookshelf… and tablets of sketch pads. I did feel better, and I’m forever grateful.

Years after that I let work stress me to the point… it crashed my adrenial glands. THAT there is something I never even knew was possible and certainly didn’t know how serious it was. You’ve heard the old saying, “No one lays on their death bed and says, I wish I’d spent more time at …WORK”

My husband read a book once and always reminds me of the title… “Don’t sweat the small Stuff”. Seriously, often times it is such silly  stuff that stresses us all.

So Paint! Cook! Write! Sing & Play… but, have a hot buttery night cap & RELAX.

HOT BUTTERY NIGHT CAP

(some of this depends on YOUR taste to sweet & alcohol… so please adjust)

Melt one tsp butter in a sauce pan
add 1-2 tblsp sugar (I use raw sugar)
**don’t let it caramelize
Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of milk
(I use 1% & never miss the fat, w/ that butter)

Grate a bit of Nutmeg on top.
Warm to ALMOST (but not) a boil

pour in a mug and add a shot of Disaronna (or Rum)

Stir and enjoy.

  1. KK,

Nice video. Great song choice and note concerning stress. I de-stress with music and making tie dye shirts.

Might need to head out to the store for some Disaronno. As Fall sets in, a hot buttery night cap & a good hockey game sounds perfect.

I LOVE your videos and the music…I had one tiny problem with this one. I did a copy and paste so I could print the recipe, but when I printed it.. because it is on such a dark background it came out almost to dark to read. You may have used this dark background before and I just didn’t try to print it..Not sure..just thought I’d let you know..you are so good you could turn into another Paula Dean..that would be good for you but not good for us..I’s sure I speak for a lot of people when I say we sure would hate to lose you around here..
